Leona Short Bio

- Leona Crasi, 16, was born in Iasi, Romania and started taking piano lessons at age 3 with Astrid Florescu. She is currently a Student of Dr. Ronald Shinn and a junior at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. She was the pianist in the Alabama All-State Orchestra in 2011 and is currently in the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO). In the summer of 2011 she participated in the Gijón International Piano Festival in Spain where she had lessons with Dr. Marc Durand from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Dr. Julian Martin from The Juilliard School of Music, Dr. Joze Ramon Mendez from New York University and Dr. Dominique Weber from the Conservatory of Geneva. She frequently performs in retirement communities in the Birmingham area.
Leona has received numerous awards including;
- 1st place at TVR Iasi, Radio Iasi Competition 2002,
- 1st place at the 2007 Johann Sebastian Bach Festival
- 1st place at the 2010 Pro Piano Competition in Romania,
- Winner at BMTA Donna Shugart Sonata Sonatina Piano Competition in 2011 and 2012,
- winner at Boykin Piano Festival in 2012, winner at AMTA Alabama Music Teachers Association in 2012,
- Honorable mention in the 2012 Indian Springs Piano Competition, alternate in MTNA Music Teachers National Association in 2012,
- 2nd place in Louis Pickard Concerto Competition and winner of the Boykin Piano Festival.
